EDGE Literacy

Overview

EDGE Literacy is funded by the Manitoba Government, Department of Education and Training, Adult Learning and Literacy. EDGE Literacy provides academic upgrading to adults over the age of 19. It is a part-time program designed to help adults learn and improve their academic level and literacy, specifically in the areas of Mathematics and English. EDGE Literacy follows the Stages curriculum as developed by Manitoba Adult Learning and Literacy.



Description

Edge Literacy classes are offered Monday to Thursday in the mornings or in the afternoons. The program follows the school calendar and runs from mid-September to late May with a three week break in December and one week in the spring.

Class levels range from foundation skills to junior high – Stages 1, 2 and 3.



Morning Classes:

Morning classes are from Monday to Thursday, 9:00am-11:30am.

  • Beginner Stage 1
  • Stage One
  • Stage Three +(bridge to high school credits)


Afternoon Classes:

Afternoon Classes are Monday to Thursday, 12:30- 3:00pm.

  • Stage One
  • Stage Two
  • Basic Math


Eligible participants:

  • Any adult 19 years old or older
  • Residents of the St. Vital and St Boniface areas are given priority.

Each learner starts at EDGE Literacy with a formal assessment of their skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. The assessment materials have been developed by Manitoba Adult Literacy and Learning and are mandatory across all Manitoba government funded literacy programs.
